Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) One of the particular difficulties for Japanese native speakers learning Chinese is use of the auxiliary verbs hu? and y?o. Both particles are used for expressing future events. This presentation considers there to be two means of perceiving the passing of time. On this basis, it organizes and contrasts equivalent forms in Chinese and Japanese based on the distinction between future (prediction) in passing experiential time and future in abstract, created time. It then observes, through a typological comparison of Chinese and Japanese, the differences in the thinking processes behind the understanding of and the interdependence of expressions for the passing of time and reveals the reasons for the difficulties faced by Japanese native speakers learning Chinese.
