Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Public broadband mobile communication system (Public BB) was built on a VHF frequency range after frequency re-arrangement, made by the digitalization process of the terrestrial television broadcasting system. The system can achieve a wireless video transmission with its high throughput ability of more than 500 kbps. Although Public BB has a high potential for constructing a maritime wireless communication system, one point should be concerned is its communication distance. As the line-of-sight radio wave transmission is limited as far as several kilometers away on the sea surface, the radio propagation would be deeply attenuated for further transmission. In this paper, we will examine to extend the communication range of the public BB applied in the maritime environment. The methods to apply Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or directional antenna are proposed, and their effectiveness is given by computer simulation.
