Abstract(in English) | In Japan, the number of Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) has been increasing with the advancement of an aging society. TKA is an operation to cut the damaged surface of patient’s knee joint and implant an artificial knee joint. The implantation angle of the artificial knee joint is decided based on patient’s mechanical axis, and it’s difficult for doctors to accurately estimate patient’s mechanical axis visually in a clinical setting. In addition, there’re several problems with existing systems estimating mechanical axis, so they haven’t been widely used. Therefore, in this research, in order to solve these problems and develop a system to estimate patient’s mechanical axis in a clinical setting, we have developed a calculation program by using a three-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU). Our experiments have revealed that our system can estimate the mechanical axis in a clinical setting based on the IMU output value. |
