Secure PUF Authentication Method against Machine Learning Attack

Abstract(in English) It has been reported that the challenge and response authentication, which is a typical PUF authentication method, is vulnerable to machine learning attacks. Therefore, resistant-PUFs, which expand the structure of the conventional PUFs, have been proposed. However, the resistant-PUFs increase the circuit area due to the expansion of PUFs. Therefore, this study proposes a new secure PUF authentication method using secret sharing schemes. The proposed method utilizes distribution values, which are generated by the response regarded as the secret value, for authentication. Thus, the proposed method improves the resistance against machine learning attacks. Moreover, the proposed method can suppress the area overhead because it does not need the expansion for the PUF structure. Simulation experiments showed that the proposed method could improve the security of PUFs.
