Evolution of contact surface of closed Cu rivets carrying large current

Abstract(in English) The mechanism of contact surface of closed Cu rivets are significant to the static welding caused by carrying large current especially for high-power relays. In this paper, a 2D axially symmetric simplified numerical model based on Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible viscous fluid and potential equation for electric field has been built to describe the formation of static welding including the temperature distribution and contact surface changing under large current on copper contact, the melting process is considered, the thermal analysis with melting deformation on a pair of closed copper rivets contact has been numerically simulated by different current. Experiments have been carried out to get the contact force and the static welding behavior. Compared with the existing thermal simulation results, it shows that the contact surface changing in the thermal simulation is much closer to the experiment result.
