Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Location aware services and networking are attracting a great deal of attentions. This paper proposes a geo-fencing system with camera for wireless local area networks (WLANs) which enables geo-location based wireless access control to intuitively manage the area where the WLANs are available. Conventional methods have some problems. One is low accuracy of RSSI based localization caused by geo-location based access control. Another is delay due to Wi-Fi activation and association time when using traffic-based method, which monitors traffic on STAs. The proposed system uses cameras to localize WLAN users accurately and estimates the distances between users and objects in the real world. In addition, this system makes delay shorter since STAs are pre-activated based on geo-fencing area. As an example of geo-location based access control, we also propose a Wi-Fi activation control which allows STAs to pre-activate Wi-Fi and associates with access points (APs) so that the power consumption and a period to obtain contents are reduced. Experimental and simulation results show the feasibility of camera-based geo-fencing system.
