Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In Internet of Things (IoT) systems utilizing a large amount of small-sized data, a data aggregation function, which hierarchically summarizes data, is effective for saving limited communication resources such as the radio frequency and sensor-node energy. To realize latency-critical IoT applications such as factory automation and smart grids, latency should be minimized at IoT gateways that aggregate spatially distributed data and transmit the aggregated-data over the Internet. In this paper, we derive the optimal aggregation parameter, which minimizes the average latency in the IoT gateway for a constant number data aggregation scheme, then apply it to an adaptive optimal control when a time variation exists in the data arrival rate. Based on our analytical results on the Laplace-Stieltjes transform and average of the stationary distribution of the latency, we derive an estimation formula for the optimal aggregation number according to a traffic intensity. We apply the formula to an adaptive control for optimizing the aggregation number when a time variation exists in the data arrival rate. The transient traffic characteristics, that absorb traffic fluctuations, thereby realize the stable optimal latency, were clarified by simulation.
