Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we investigate the statistical characteristics of nonlinear fiber transmission. With the statistical model, we propose maximum a posterior probability (MAP) decoder to compensate for signal distortion due to fiber nonlinearity. The suitable statistical model for the nonlinear transmission drastically reduces the required memory size and computational complexity for the MAP decoder, making possible to compensate for the nonlinear distortion due to not only self-phase modulation but also cross-phase modulation between dual-polarization signals. For nonlinear fiber transmission of three-channel wavelength-division-multiplexed dual-polarization 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation optical signals, we numerically evaluate the performance of the iterative decoder between our proposed MAP decoder for nonlinear compensation and a decoder for forward error correction. Compared with the simple back-propagation scheme and the conventional MAP decoder, we show that the proposed method is effective for nonlinear compensation.
