| Abstract(in English) | In a series of studies, Yukio Hirose proposed the notions private expression and public expression (cf. Hirose (1995, 1997, 2000, 2002), Hirose and Hasegawa (2010)). Tamura (2013) applies these notions to the study of linguistic expressions in picturebooks, succeeding in demonstrating that private expressions and public expressions have different influences on the way the reader interprets fictitious worlds of picturebooks. Hoping to contribute to the study of picturebooks, this paper aims to further develop Tamura’s proposal and establish a foundation for the study of linguistic expressions in picturebooks on the basis of private/public expressions. |
