| Abstract(in English) | Network simulation combined with a computer system emulator is an attractive approach. It can avoid complex and error-prone modeling work for the target network applications by executing real applications and OS on the emulator. However, this may spoil the repeatability, which is the important characteristics of network simulation, because a computer system emulator usually consists of multiple threads whose scheduling depends on the state of the host machine. The loss of repeatability makes the investigation of the simulations results difficult due to, for instance, uncertainty of the effect of simulation settings. In this paper, based on QEMU as the target computer system emulator, we propose a repeatable communication technique among multiple QEMU instances involved in a network simulator. For the experimental evaluation, we simulate a network having ten nodes, each of which is executed on a QEMU instance. The experimental result shows the communications among QEMU instances can successfully obtain repeatability. |
