Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Droplet manipulation on the substrate is one of the important applications of using surface acoustic waves (SAW). In biological applications, research on droplet transport technology using SAW for lab-on-a-chip devices has been actively conducted and techniques for measuring the position of droplets are required as well. By using burst waves with short excitation time, reflected waves and transmitted waves due to droplets of SAW can be observed. Reflected and transmitted waves are responses caused by SAW radiating longitudinal waves into droplets, and they show responses dependent on droplets. This method is used to measure the position of droplets for liquid droplet transportation.
