Dependence of nonlinear signal degradation on baud rate and frequency interval in Nyquist OTDM-WDM transmission

Abstract(in English) Large capacity transmission corresponding to recent Internet traffic increase is demanded. Since the bandwidth available for optical fiber communication is limited, it is indispensable to efficiently use the band. Therefore, an N-OTDM-WDM scheme using Nyquist optical time division multiplexing (N-OTDM) and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is proposed. The narrow frequency interval of each WDM signal is needed to achieve the high spectral efficiency and high transmission capacity. However, the narrow frequency interval induces signal quality degradation due to the Kerr effects in WDM transmission. In this research, we investigate the signal degradation dependence on the baud rate and frequency interval for high spectral efficiency in N-OTDM-WDM transmission.
