Abstract(in English) | The Moon-based synthetic aperture radar (Moon-based SAR) offers an unprecedented temporal and spatial coverages in Earth observation, and has attracted growing attention recently. However, operating in the lunar orbit, Moon-based SAR imaging is confined within a complex geometry of the SAR, Moon and Earth, where both rotation and revolution exert. The Doppler of the Moon-based SAR is mainly generated by virtue of the Earth's self-rotation as a function of the Moon-based SAR geometry. The lunar revolution around its own axis also adds additional components to Doppler. Consequently, the effect of the lunar revolution, has a significant impact on the performance of the Moon-based SAR. The overall effects of the lunar revolution are analyzed in this paper. Theoretical analyses show that the effect of the lunar revolution turns out to be two correction factors in terms of a deviation magnitude scaling the equivalent velocity and deviation angle affecting the equivalent squint angle. Both the two factors exert significant impact on the Doppler. As a result, the azimuthal resolution and the distortion angle are modified by the effect of lunar revolution. Results also show that effects of the lunar revolution are in connection with relative positions of the ground target and Moon-based SAR. In the end, numerical simulations using point target response validate the theoretical analyses and accentuate the necessary to compensate the Doppler error induced by the lunar revolution. |
