Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Around thirty years have been passed since the SAR appeared in Japan. All the SAR developments and the related researchers or activities are originated from the event of Seasat launch of June 28 1978, and Earth observation researches have been progressed significantly in variety of the fields worldwide. In Japan, the spaceborne and airborne L-band SARs are contiguously planned, developed, launched and operated, and mainly used for the basic researches and the application researches. Since the Earth as the observation target is largely covered by the vegetation, the L-band SAR, which is more penetrate and adapted for the target observation, are developed at both Japan and the various countries: United states, Argentine, and Germany. Luckily, the author joined the development of the SAR and the application system for the last thirty years, and mainly contributed at the calibration and validation as well as the application fields. High performances and sensitivity of the SAR owes to the fact that the observation is performed in fully digital in meeting the sampling theorem. It was 1990s that the SAR was defined as the future key sensor for the earth observation and several competitions and collaborations were performed with the world societies since then. This presentation will introduce the several epoch making events and the challenges performed with the world during the last thirty years and will describe the future hope of the author. |
