Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Broader connectivity between modern vehicles and the external IT world enlarges the social concern about cyber-risks on vehicles. Moreover, vehicle cyber-security has additional difficulties compared to ordinary IT security, for example, the requirement for the shorter response on vehicle safety applications, and risks of driving history which indicates possible times of drivers’ absence from home to be abused for secondary crimes. On the other hand, VANET (Vehicle Ad-hoc Network, i.e., V2V communication) is expected to be applied to various applications because of its short communication latency and not needing of an infrastructure, caused by direct communication between neighboring vehicles not through a base-station nor a server. However, VANET, where individual vehicles communicate directly, has difficulties to detect/exclude malicious nodes (i.e., vehicles), on the contrary to its advantages. Hence, this report first discusses the advantages and challenges on VANET security with PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) currently proposed by the industry. After that, it introduces industrial approaches to apply blockchain currently getting attention in the financial industry; then, finally, discusses the challenges to apply blockchain to VANET security. |
