Assessment of Human Exposure by Ultra-Wideband Electromagnetic Pulses

Abstract(in English) In this paper, assessment of human exposures by ultra-wideband (UWB) electromagnetic (EM) pulses is performed via a novel frequency-dependent FDTD scheme, previously proposed by the authors. Complex permittivity functions of all biological tissues used in numerical analyses are assumed to be represented by 4-term Cole-Cole model. In the proposed method, we apply the fast inverse Laplace transform to determine the time-domain impulse response and utilize Prony’s method to find the z-domain representation and to extract the residues and poles for the use in FDTD update equations. FDTD formulation are then done via the z-transformation. Firstly, we perform scattering analyses of multilayer spheres containing four kinds of biological tissues and then compare the results with those by Mie’s theory in order to confirm validity of the proposed method. Finally, specific energy absorption distribution inside a human body exposed to UWB pulses is calculated for the first time.
