[Invited Lecture] Research & development of wireless LAN using multiple frequency bands

Abstract(in English) In order to meet increasing traffic load on wireless communcation, the author has studied a multiband wireless LAN which can effectively detect and exploit unused radio resources scattered in time and frequency domains. This paper introduces the R&D activities on the multiband wireless LAN and its key techniques including channel access protocol, algorithm for transmit band/timing selection, and prediction of channel status (idle/busy). This paper also introduces recent standardization activity of IEEE 802.11 on utilization of multiple frequency bands in wireless LAN.
