Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We investigated the effects of direction information obtained in visual context of background on the constant velocity perception of object motion on frontal parallel plane. The visual stimulus was an object moving with acceleration in one of the four directions, up, down, left, and right, on a background of natural image. Orientation of the background image was one of four conditions: upright relative to the body, upside down, rotated 90 degrees to the left and rotated 90 degrees right. We measured the acceleration contained in the motion that was perceived as constant velocity for each background condition. The observer observed the stimulus with the supine and lateral posture condition. The results indicate that constant velocity perception, which can be thought as the standard for motion perception, is affected by the vertical direction estimated from the visual context when directions of body and of gravity are separated.
