Abstract(in English) In 2015, we succeeded to demonstrate an areal density of 123 Gb/in2 which corresponds to 220 TB cartridge capacity by the combination with advanced drive technologies. The key technologies to achieve the areal density : fine magnetic particle technology, particle orientation control and surface profile design are summarized in this paper. In addition, the recent studies on ultra fine Strontium-Ferrite particles and two-dementional magnetic recording (TDMR) technologies for future tape storage are also introduced in this presentation.
