Numerical Analysis of 3-Dimensional Printed Reflector-Lens Antenna Based on Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene Plastics for W-Band Millimeter-Wave Radar Applications

Abstract(in English) This report discusses the numerical analysis of 3-dimensional (3D) printed reflector-lens antenna based on Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastics for W-Band millimeter-wave radar applications. The problem to realize 3D printed high-gain antenna with ABS plastics are investigated using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) analysis. First, to confirm the feasibility of the W-band antenna fabricated using the 3D printer, the characteristics of the eight-zone Fresnel reflectarray developed so far is discussed. The measured antenna gain shows a 30.4 dBi antenna gain at 78.5 GHz. Then, the reflector-lens antenna and the reflector-Fresnel-lens antenna is designed and analyzed. The analyzed results of the reflector-lens antenna and the reflector-Fresnel-lens antenna show around 5 dB and around 1 dB antenna gain reduction due to dielectric loss of the lens material, respectively. This results confirm the effectiveness of the thin lens structure, especially for relatively high dielectric loss materials such as ABS plastics.
