Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | In recent years, there has been a growing interest in selective stimulation of various small fibers in the skin for pain research. Intra-epidermal Electric Stimulation (IES) has been proposed for selective stimulation by injecting a weak current through a concentric bipolar needle electrode. However, there are few studies on stimulation thresholds considered of safety. By constructing a computational model of peripheral nerve included pain sensation, it becomes possible to optimize electrodes and input current when IES is performed, and selective stimulation improvement can be expected. In this study, we examined effect of electrical parameters of the conventional nerve model on activation threshold of peripheral myelinated nerve (Aδ fiber). The potential distribution by IES is computed by electromagnetic field analysis, and a threshold value was searched using a neural model. Although it was possible to approximate computation results to experimental results of pain threshold by modifying the electrical parameters, computation results are compared with experimental results of pain threshold and showed a pain threshold prediction error of 90% with respect to experimental measurements. As a result, Modeling including pain sensation is difficult by only modifying the electrical parameters of the conventional myelinated nerve model, it seems necessary to consider the possibility that multiple nerves are reacting. |
