Current Status and Issues of Air Navigation Performance

Abstract(in English) GPS is an aircraft navigation system that has supported the development of RNAV and RNP operation, especially the operation with high navigation accuracy specified in recent RNP AR APCH cannot be realized without GPS anymore. On the other hand, in recent years many pilots have been reporting the problem that a “GPS outage” event in which GPS cannot be used occurs during flight and the RNAV / RNP cannot be achieved. However, at present there is no system to monitor navigation performance of each aircraft on the ground in Japan. Therefore, we have been evaluating the navigation performance of aircraft in flight in terms of whether GPS can be properly utilized by RNAV / RNP navigation. In this paper, we evaluate the navigation performance of each aircraft at high and low altitude using position information and navigation performance information using ADS-B and report on current problems and future prospects.
