Performance Evaluation of Radio over Fiber Communication System with Frequency Doubling in 90 GHz Band

Abstract(in English) A millimeter band backhaul technology is under development for advanced high-speed trains running through a long tunnel for communication as well as for gathering a large number of passenger communications transmitting to the ground. A new backhaul communication system is proposed in a millimeter-wave band by Radio over Fiber to provide seamless Internet connectivity to the hundreds of passengers on the train. In this paper, we report Radio over Fiber system with frequency doubling for long distance transmission of millimeter-wave vector modulation signal. First, we describe the generation principle of vector modulation signal with optical frequency doubling and results of transmission losses due to chromatic dispersion. Next, we evaluate the error vector magnitude of vector modulation signal by optical frequency doubling. Finally, we show the results of the communication test using the software-defined radio, and we conclude the millimeter-wave band communication by optical frequency doubling is possible.
