Operation technology for efficient maintenance of underground optical cable

Abstract(in English) We are developing an efficient maintenance operation system for underground optical cable. Since water penetration gradually deteriorates optical fiber cable, maintenance engineers monitor water penetration of the underground optical cables periodically. Although they spend much effort for the maintenance works such as searching locations of water penetration and repairing closures, it is difficult to prevent for all underground cables with water penetration. We developed new maintenance operation system that performs automatically optical pulse test and it allows engineers to easily manage maintenance progress. The system will be useful for efficient maintenance and maintaining quality of optical fiber networks.
