Abstract(in English) We report the development of high density, small size and light weight aerial 40-fiber optical cables designed for the easy mid-span branching with existing tools. This newly developed cable is the same size as the existing 24-fiber aerial cable so that existing tools are applicable to the mid-span branching. The fiber density is from 1.67 to 2.77 times higher per unit area and from 1.58 to 2.46 times higher than that of existing aerial cables.
