Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The author reviews the encounter with underwater acoustics and introduces his research history for four decades. In order to estimate fish abundance in the lake, he realized the automatic counting of fish echoes, then introduced a dual beam method to estimate fish length. He also developed the four beam method and the fan-shaped high resolution echo sounder. In the overseas study tour he saw a lot of promising work in US and in Europe, it motivates his after work including co-research with fisheries scientists. In the closing years, he challenged the work on quantitative sonar and underwater acoustic camera. He established Asian Fisheries Acoustics Society to promote acoustic technology in Asian countries.
