Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, I examine disyllabic post-nominal locatives in Mandarin. In contrast to mono-syllabic post-nominal locatives, disyllabic post-nominals in the literature have simply been considered nouns. However, based on new types of disyllabic post-nominal locatives provided by Djamouri et al. (2013) and Paul (2015), I propose that certain disyllabic post-nominals may behave differently, depending on whether the preceding NPs are location NPs or time NPs. In addition, a search in archaic Chinese texts indicates that not all the post-nominal locatives in question may undergo reanalysis, contra Djamouri et al. (2013) and Paul (2015). This conclusion therefore leads us to rethink possible analyses of mono-syllabic post-nominal locatives.
