Output power enhancement in photonic-based RF generation by optical pulse compression with a dispersion managed highly-nonlinear fiber

Abstract(in English) In photonic-based radio frequency (RF) generation method, we showed that RF output power is enhanced by optical pulse compression in a constant dispersion fiber. However, if the source linewidth is not zero, quality of the RF output is reduced because of dispersion and/or combination of dispersion and fiber nonlinearity. Here, we present numerical results, where RF output power is enhanced in a dispersion managed fiber (DMF) using a highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) with zero average dispersion. We found that in 100-GHz RF generation, there is a region where output power enhancement of > 5 dB is obtained with a realistic optical power.
