Development of Phase-multi-level Holographic Data Storage System

Abstract(in English) We are developing an angular-multiplexing holographic data storage system as a next generation optical disk capable of high density recording of 1 TB/disc. In this study, we have developed a phase multi-level recording method that realizes doubling of recording density for conventional intensity-binary-recording system. Our developed method has high compatibility with the conventional intensity-binary-recording system and can use the high speed spatial light modulator (SLM) used in the conventional system. So, it is possible to improve the recording density without lowering the recording speed. In addition, we have developed a phase multi-level reproduction method for reproducing the recorded multi-level signal, and demonstrated recording and reproduction of 4-level phase signal called as QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying).
