Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, there has been a growing interest in non-invasive stimulation of the brain for medical treatment and diagnosis. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive scheme that induces an electric current below the stimulating coil, in which a pulse is injected through its windings. TMS has been used for brain surgery and cognitive diagnosis. However, there has been reported that discomfort/pain can be experienced in face or jaw muscles when stimulating speech-associated areas of the brain. In this study, an improved realistic human head model was implemented by considering the anisotropic characteristics of muscle tissue conductivity that can influence the stimulation site and strength of TMS to investigate pain as a side effect of TMS.
