High precision infrared refractive index measurement using Nano-antenna

Abstract(in English) ‘Infrared refractive index’ is an indispensable parameter for various fields including infrared photonics. However, to date, there has been no method for measuring complex refractive index with high accuracy from near- to mid-infrared regions. Here we propose and demonstrate a plasmonic optical antenna method which can detect broadband and high-precision complex refractive index using just a single drop of liquid. In this method, measurement accuracy is highly dependent on the shape of the optical antenna, so it is essential to design an appropriate antenna structure. We showed that the accuracy of this method improves to < 1.7×10-2 by introducing asymmetric paired bar as an optical antenna.
