High-Accuracy Indoor Positioning using smartphone with Particle Filter applying Map Matching

Abstract(in English) The paper focuses on smartphone-based indoor positioning. We adopt both PDR (Pedestrian Dead Reckoning) which uses sensors on the device and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) for higher accuracy. The results from PDR and BLE are integrated by Particle Filter. In addition, we apply map matching which corrects the positioning result by referring to map information. We examine “Region check” which excludes the positioning results in an invalid area and “Wall constraint” which excludes the positioning results passes through an invalid area in addition to Region check. An indoor experiment was conducted using a commercial smartphone and revealed that the average positioning accuracy was improved by about 18.4% in Region check method and about 24.4% in Wall constraint method, comparing to the previous application. In the Wall constraint method, the average positioning accuracy was 1.6m and 90% of the positioning results had the estimation error within 3.0m. Another experiment was conducted changing the number of Particle and the average positioning accuracy was 1.46m at minimum.
