A Fundamental Approach for Efficient Crowdsourced Multi-view Video Uploading

Abstract(in English) The human visual system (HVS) has more sensitivespatial resolution to the currently gazing region-of-interest (ROI) of the scene, and the sensitivity becomes decreased to the peripheralregions. This introduces considerable perceptual redundancyin low-interest regions. Considering this redundancy of human visualperception, in this paper, we discuss a fundamental approachfor traffic reduction on crowdsourced multi-view video uploading. For this purpose, we extend our previously proposed differentialencoding-based video uploading scheme using ROI-based multiviewvideo encoding. To realize the ROI-based differential multiviewvideo uploading, we first construct a correlated network ofcontributors based on their correlation degrees. We then select acontributor with the largest average correlation in the networkfor extraction of ROI regions. The selected contributor uploadsits video stream using ROI-based single-view video encodingwhile the rest of the contributors in the network overhear thetransmitted stream and performs ROI-based differential multiviewvideo encoding with the prior ROI information. Evaluationresults show that our approach achieves 57% of traffic reductionunder the same visual quality in ROI regions and unnoticeablevisual degradation in low-interest regions.
