Abstract(in English) | Currently, digital coherent transmission using spectrally-efficient modulation formats has been widely applied to not only long-haul networks but also metropolitan areas networks. High port density with downsizing of optical components including a coherent receiver is strongly required for cost-sensitive metro applications, and to cope with this demand, we have demonstrated the InP-based photodetector monolithically integrated with the 90? hybrid and its application to compact coherent receivers, since it allows the elimination of complicated alignments in the assembly process in addition to the miniaturization of integrated devices, resulting in low production costs and stabilization of receiver performance. Furthermore, the photodetector integrated with the 90? hybrid which is compatible with a wide bandwidth operation and a high responsivity has been investigated toward over 400 Gbps coherent transmission systems. In this presentation, we review development progress of coherent receivers using InP-based photodetectors and discuss future prospect of photonic integrated circuits. |
