Performance Improvement by Digital Pre-Distortion Technique for 32APSK over Satellite Transmission

Abstract(in English) 4K/8K test broadcasting by satellite started on August 1st 2016, and 4K/8K commercial broadcasting will start on December 1st 2018. The transmission system for 4K/8K broadcasting is ISDB-S3 that has adopted 16APSK and 32APSK as new modulation schemes. While 16APSK is used for the test and commercial 4K/8K broadcasting, 32APSK is not used because its non-linear distortion by satellite transponder is much larger than 16APSK. We have proposed a digital pre-distortion technique to mitigate the effect of non-linear distortion. Although we indicated its effectiveness by numerical calculations and transmission experiments, characteristics of the satellite channel in the evaluation were limited to the ones of a transponder without a linearizer. In this study, we report on experimental results of the reception performances for 32APSK and the improvements by the digital pre-distortion technique over a satellite channel with and without the linearizer.
