Quality Improvement of Photorealistic VR for Digital Exhibitions

Abstract(in English) Museums have attempted to enhance audience understanding of museum exhibitions via virtual reality (VR) experiences using 360-degree images as digital archives. However, exhibitions of objects may easily be harmed by strong light, and archiving such exhibitions with strong light is prohibited due to conservation requirements. In addition, the access to archives is restricted to prevent damage to collections. Thus, archived images typically are not bright or clear enough for audiences to feel as if they are actually present when viewing exhibitions via VR. Thus, we attempt to improve the resolution and luminance of such images. We propose a composition method that utilizes consecutive 360-degree images. In addition, we verify the improvement by comparing images generated with our method to high-resolution images.
