Investigations on Structure of Interference Canceller in IDMA-based Random Access

Abstract(in English) This paper studies various structures of interference canceller appropriate for interleave division multiple access (IDMA)-based random access in order to support massive machine-type communications (mMTC) in the fifth generation mobile communication system. To support massive connectivity in uplink, grant-free and contention-based multiple access is essential to reduce the control signaling overhead and transmission latency. To suppress the packet loss due to contention and achieve multi-packet reception, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with interference cancellation at the base station receiver is essential. We use IDMA and compare various structures of interference canceller, such as parallel interference canceller (PIC), successive interference canceller (SIC), and their hybrid method from the viewpoints of error rate and decoding delay time. From the extensive computer simulations, we show that the IDMA-based random access is promising for supporting mMTC and the hybrid of PIC and SIC can achieve good tradeoff between the error rate and decoding delay time.
