[Special Talk] Propagation of disaster information to local residents by Grass-roots Information Distribution System

Abstract(in English) It is important to promptly inform local residents about information on disasters such as sediment disasters and make evacuation quickly. In this research, we are developing the Grass-roots Information Distribution System using mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) that local residents autonomously predict the occurrence of the disasters and its occurrence and promptly propagate disaster information. In the Grass-roots Information Distribution System, mobile terminals such as smartphones owned by local residents are used, and MANET is constructed using the Bluetooth communication function installed in those terminals. Among local residents, there are residents who do not possess smartphones, for example, elderly people and children, and we are proceeding with prototyping of the dedicated terminals so that these residents can connect to the Grass-roots Information Distribution System. We report development of the dedicated terminals and development of network control software for connecting the dedicated terminals to MANET. Also, we report problems revealed from evaluation experiment using dedicated terminals and network control software.
