A Study on the Packet Loss Characteristics for High Quality Video Transmission over Wireless LAN

Abstract(in English) All digital media is now transmitted over IP based network and the demand for wireless is rapidly increasing. The new codec, called H.265/HEVC, enables us to compress 4K video as the same bitrate of full HD video coded by MPEG2. In this paper, we evaluate the packet loss characteristics over wireless networks with UDP. As a result, we clarify that Reed-Solomon error correction code provides good transmission characteristics compared to conventional Pro-MPEG. Using longer block size provided by GF(2^9), we can get bit error rate of 10^-6 even at 1% packet loss environment. Using these methods, we can apply wireless network to the high quality video streaming such as 4K video.
