Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) If someone refers to others with an affection, part of their names, especially their first names, can be truncated (e.g. Japanese: Takuya → Taku, Taku-chan / English: Elizabeth → Liz, Lizzy). With respect to the first name truncation, Japanese and English behave the same way, but they differ in the full name truncation (e.g. Japanese: Kimura Takuya → Kimutaku / English: Elizabeth Taylor → *Elilor). This paper aims to explain the difference based on the framework of Distributed Morphology and shows that the difference is attributed to the interpretive difference of person features in Morphology of the both languages.
