A Study of Solid Type Low Latency Optical Fiber

Abstract(in English) Low latency transmission is required especially in the machine-to-machine (M2M) transmission of today’s optical communication network. As to long distance transmission, whose transmission line length reaches several 1000s km, propagation latency in the transmission line cannot be ignored. In this study, we proposed the solid type low latency optical fiber whose group delay was lower than silica-core optical fibers. As a result of numerical investigation and fabrication, we realized the group delay reduction of 0.3 % compared with conventional cut-off shifted single mode fiber, while maintained other optical characteristics comparable to those of cut-off shifted fiber.
