Large Deformation Diffeomorphic Metric Mapping of 3D Organ Shape and the Statistical Shape Model on Non-Linear Manifold

Abstract(in English) In this article,we report on a method that generates a set of corresponding points on the surfaces of target organs in given training 3D medical images in order for the construction of a statistical shape model (SSM) of the organ.For representing the surface of a target organ using a point distribution model (PDM),we need to generate corresponding points among the surfaces.Roughly speaking,we can divide the methods for the corresponding points into two categories: Image-based registration methods and Region-based ones.We employ a large deformation diffeomorphic metric mapping (LDDMM) method included in the latter category.The LDDMM method is widely employed for the generation of corresponding points because the method can obtain a spatially smooth one-to-one mapping between given two figures. In this article,we demonstrate that SSMs obtained by applying the LDDMM after describing organ region features using a graph Laplacian eigenvectors are better than SSMs directly applying the LDDMM to given organ regions.
