Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | SDN (Software-defined networking) technology is being adopted and deployed from data center LAN and enterprise WAN to wireless mesh networks and is considered as an enabler for IoT and edge-computing through network slicing and orchestration. OpenFlow is the first SDN component with commercial success and easily available for education and research in universities. OpenFlow allows us to design and prototype a variety of networking schemes involving flexible routing in a unified manner, which were enjoyable only by simulation before. As examples, the multipath-multicast to send a single file to multiple recipients and the network-cooperative active measurement to monitor all links are introduced. In the former, a file to transfer is divided into equally-sized blocks; different blocks are concurrently transmitted to the same recipient over multiple paths while the same block is concurrently transmitted to multiple recipients by multicast; resulting in a shorter reception completion time of each recipient. In the latter, prove packets are forwarded through every link (in both directions) only once to reduce the traffic load on the network. Then, the number of passing packets at each switch port is collected to compute the loss rate of a link based on the difference between the upper and lower sides switches, in which the sequential order of the collections is controlled so as to reduce the number of collections before locating the heavily lossy (bad) links; resulting in a shorter time for locating bad links and a lower overhead of accessing switches. |
