MPTCP Subflow Selection Method Using Measurement Packets in Heterogeneous Networks for Power Saving

Abstract(in English) MPTCP (MultiPath TCP) can provide multipath communications over multiple subflows. By selecting a subflow with less power consumption, it is expected that the power consumption for the communications is reduced while the communication stability is also improved. In the existing subflow selection methods considering power saving, the target links are only limited to WiFi and a cellular network, and then WiFi is simply prioritized. However, depending on the communication environments, there are some cases that the cellular network is better selection than WiFi. Moreover, there also exist terminals with a network interface other than WiFi and a cellular network. To solve the problems, this paper proposes a subflow selection method that a terminal periodically sends measurement packets over each subflow to measure the power consumption. The simulation ex-periments show that power consumption per 1MB to transmit measurement packets and explain experiments to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
