Proposal and Demonstration of a State Monitoring Method of Flexible Channelized Links in Flex Ethernet

Abstract(in English) Increase of capacity and diversification of Ethernet clients outputted from routers to optical terminals promoted the standardization of Flex Ethernet at OIF. It enables accommodating wide variety of client traffic to grouped 100GbE physical links efficiently. While it realizes flexible interface which is independent of physical link capacity, it causes a problem that it cannot localize affected clients against bit errors in the physical links, because it lacks in link state monitoring function. To address this issue, we propose a method of state monitoring of flexible channelized links using error monitoring information in Flex Ethernet. We implemented the method in a FPGA evaluation board and demonstrated the localization of bit errors in Flex Ethernet blocks.
