Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the retina, the visual information represented by light is first transduced to graded potential change in the photoreceptors and then processed by the retinal neuronal circuit. The ganglion cells send the processed visual information to the brain as spike sequences. It is, however, not well understood how the spike sequences generated in the ganglion cells encode the visual information. This fundamental problem is not solved merely by physiological experiments. The transient Off-α ganglion cell is known to respond to rapid change of illumination with intermittent high frequency spikes. In the present study, we studied the spike sequences of the Off-α ganglion cell using a hardware model simulating the basic structure of retinal circuit.
