Abstract(in English) | We analyzed a phenomenon called flash crowd in which a Web service is flooded with a large amount of access for a short period of time. In flash crowd, a response delay due to an increase in server load would induce users to retransmit their requests, which may further cause a cycle of increasing the server load. We regard this phenomenon as a resonance between the user and the server. In this paper, we constructed a model of flash crowd using the oscillation model which we proposed to express the resonance phenomenon in the network. Analyzing this model, we examined conditions under which flash crowd would cause a serious service degradation and compared them with simulation results. |
