Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) With the advance of wireless LAN communication technologies, the number of wireless LAN devices such as smart phones and tablets have been rapidly increasing. In the communication environment using these WLAN devices, the communication quality changes due to the radio wave attenuation, reflected wave from the ground and radio interference from other devices. In order to cope with the problems of environmental factors, the wireless LAN terminal uses a rate adaptation technique for dynamically controlling multiple transmission rates (multi-rate) according to the radio wave environment. However, since the detail of RA mechanism were not opened, it is not clear how the change of transmission rate affects the throughput. Some existing studies experimentally evaluated the throughput by considering the communication distance in the multi-rate WLAN environment. These studies mainly consider the difference of terminals. Thus, the evaluation by considering the multiple surface of grounds and OS is insufficient. Therefore, this study evaluates the WLAN throughput and characteristics of transmission rate variation by considering several surface of grounds and OS experimentally.
