Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Announcement through outdoor loudspeakers of disaster prevention administrative radio is important not only for early warning but also as the final channel to convey information to evacuating people when the public wireless network is down due to earthquake or flood of access request. Loudspeakers are placed at scattered points in order to cover a wide area but it causes a so-called long-path echo problem by which speech becomes difficult to catch because a single speech arrives multiple times with different delays. An attempt to solve this problem was to controll the speed of utterance appropriately. Another is to adjust the length of silent portions. These research works focused on the temporal aspect of speech. In contrast, we try to ease the problem by adjusting output levels of loudspeakers, employing U50. It was proposed as an index of speech intelligibility in a reverberant environment and defined as a ratio of the energy of early and late sound components. In the long-path echo problem, the early sound is not always the primary component for understanding the speech. Therefore, we newly proposed probabilistic U50 and conducted global optimization with respect to it. As a result, improvement by 6.5 dB was achieved, compared with the case where the speech is presented at the equal level at all loudspeakers.
