Abstract(in English) Diseases appearing in the spine include spondylolysis, spondylolisthesis, vertebral fracture, and the like. A preoperative plan sufficient for treating these diseases is important. In preoperative planning of spinal fusion generally, it is mainstream to do using CT images of patients. To perform these preoperative planning, it is necessary to extract the bone region from the CT image. A case of applying semantic segmentation by Fully Convolutional Network (FCN) to medical image segmentation has been reported. However, in semantic segmentation it is difficult to find the boundaries of objects belonging to the same category. Therefore, semantic segmentation is not suitable for segmentation of vertebra connected by intervertebral indirect contact. Therefore, in this study, the vertebra is extracted from CT data by instance segmentation using FCN.
